Severe malaria, jaundice outbreak in Longding
KHONSA, Nov 24: Spread of malaria and jaundice in epidemic form has been reported in many villages of upper Wancho belt of Longding district. According to DIPRO reports, the diseases have reportedly claimed many lives so far.
Local MLA Thangwang Wangam said that the situation was alarming as new cases are being reported everyday. Though all the health workers have been pressed into service there was no respite from the diseases, he informed, and appealed to the state government to send more medicines to contain the diseases from further spreading. Protest rally to demand justice for Bomjen

Assault on JE condemned
ITANAGAR, Nov 23: Arunachal Pradesh Junior Engineers Welfare Association (APJEWA) has strongly condemned the physical attack on one of its members Dony Mugli, JE (C) PWD at Nacho on November 13 last and demanded immediate arrest of the assaulters.
According to APJEWA, the case was reported to Police Station, Nacho but no arrest has been made so far. The AJEWA’s district unit also submitted a memorandum to the DC and SP of Upper Subansiri demanding immediate arrest of the culprits; but they did not take any initiative to arrest the assaulters, the release alleged.
According to the association, the JE was brutally assaulted when he refused to prepare bill without work order.
Meanwhile, the central executive body of APJEWA, in an emergency meeting here today, urged the Chief Secretary and Director General Police, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, to intervene the matter and direct the Upper Subansiri DCand SP to arrest the culprits at the earliest failing which the APJEWA threatened to launch series of state wide democratic movement.

Governor pays homage to martyrs
ITANAGAR, Nov 24: Terming martyrdom as the "ultimate" form of patriotism, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma today said paying homage to such brave sons was the "highest" form of worship.
“The nation can never repay them for their deeds. It is an act which is well beyond the confines of religion and politics,” he said while felicitating the families of martyrs at Raj Bhawan here, official sources said.

ITANAGAR, Nov 24: Hura Monu, 34, of Capital F Point Gym, won the first ever Mr Arunachal Bodybuilding Competition (60 kg category) at the IMC building here on Saturday evening.
Tenzing Dhondup (from the same gym), Kabak Tanang (Victoria gym), Rup Boruah (Capital gym) and Ravi Panikar and Sanjay Biswas (National gym) came second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
Lok Sabha member Takam Sanjay, who earlier declared the event open, in his address said Arunachal is a young and undiscovered state in the fields of the games and sports.
“But lately, our boys and girls are making progress in games and sports, especially weightlifting, badminton, archery and karate,” he said.

Saying that bodybuilding can transform a one’s personality, he cited the example of A Bobby Singh of Manipur, who won the Mr World title three times, Mr Asia title once, and Mr India title 11 times.

President to attend RGU’s XIIth Convocation on Nov 30
ITANAGAR, Nov 24: Spirits are running quite high in the heart of the instituteof highest learning in the state, with the Visitor of the University President Pranab Mukherjee paying a maiden visit to the campus for its XIIth Convocation scheduled on November 30. In the Morning Prayer led by Boa Tarin, a veteran Catholic leader, prayers were offered for all civil and religious leaders and all engaged in the service of leadership in the State of Arunachal Pradesh. Jacob, the Vicar General of the Diocese exhorted the faithful at the beginning of the Holy Eucharist to participate devoutly in the Eucharistic Procession and get blessings for oneself and one’s family.
The procession which took about two hours to culminate at the premises of Good Shepherd School bracing the blazing sun and dusty roads, prayed for God’s blessings on all and for peace, harmony and prosperity of Arunachal.
The annual Eucharistic Procession of the Catholic Church, coinciding with the feast of Christ the Universal King was spectacular for the sheer number of faithful who turned up and took devout participation. The procession also marked the conclusion of the Year of Faith for the Catholics as announced by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI at Rome last year this time exhorting all Catholics to grow in faith and in the Gospel values of holiness, love compassion and universal brotherhood.
The conclusion of the Year of Fatih was also celebrated with a Catechism Quiz competition, Saturday last, at DBYC, Vivek Vihar, wherein seventy five youngsters from the ten districts of the Diocese of Itanagar were grilled on doctrines of Catholic faith by Sr. Penny Rose Chinir and her team in which Auxilium College Girl’s Hostel came victorious and bagged the coveted rupees ten thousand cash prize and certificates. Don Bosco School, Ziro and Mary Immaculate Parish, Ziro bagged the second and third prizes. Taba Yall Nabam, Member Itanagar Municipal Council and Taw Tebin, Executive Secretary, Arunachal Pradesh Catholic Association graced the occasion as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively. APFA completes a busy, fruitful year
ITANAGAR, Nov 24: There are several footballers in the streets and corners of Arunachal Pradesh; some who have been recognised, while others are waiting to be discovered. People often speak of the abundance of football players the state has. But they also question the position of the state team in terms of national representation and also how players are not provided with better facilities.
This is where the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA) comes into play.
The association under the guidance of APFA president Takam Sanjoy, secretary general
G Doke and with the active support of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki who himself is a
football enthusiast, have been working to improve the football scene in the state.

Besides organising local football tournaments, the association has taken the state team to the national level and instilled self confidence among the players, encouraging them to do better in future tournaments; highlighted by the Arunachal team’s participation in the Santosh Trophy held at Kerela in February earlier this year, followed by a visit to Shillong in March for the Dr T Ao Memorial Football Tournament.

Besides preparing teams for zonal and national football tournaments, the APFA organised several local tournaments like the XII Tadar Tang Memorial State Level Football Tournament (TTMSLFT) held at Pasighat earlier this year and the IV Eagle Trophy State Level Football Tournament held at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Naharlagun.
Other local tournaments witnessed this year include the 1st Inter District Level Football Tournament, the 2nd Gogio Taya Memorial State Level Football Tournament, and the 1st Veteran State Level Football Tournament, which allowed former players to showcase their skills to the younger generation of footballers.
Key contributions were also made by former footballer and Councillor Kipa Takum who was the organising chairman of the 2nd Arunachal League Football Tournament, which was held under the aegis of the APFA. The league competition was a landmark one in many ways. League champions Todo United FC were the biggest beneficiary of the competition as they would now be trying to make a mark at the national football landscape, hoping to make it to the second division of the Indian League which begins in April next year.

Also, the APFA cannot take the risk for unruly incidents that occur in such competitions”.

While putting in efforts to nurture and showcase the talent present in Arunachal, the APFA has announced that the state will be represented by the Arunachal football team in the Santosh Trophy scheduled to be held in February next year in Mizoram, and the Arunachal Women’s team will participate in the National Football Championships which is set to be held in January next year.
However, there are also concerns as the lone stadium in the state capital, Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, is still not at a level to host high profile zonal and national level competitions. During the 11th edition of the Tadar Tang Memorial Tournament in 2012, the chief minister had announced a sum of Rs two crores for the maintenance of the stadium which still hasn’t materialised. It’s an amount that will only help the APFA develop the game further in the state. For the sake of the state, citizens can only pray it happens soon.
NHPC’s Subansiri project cost may go to Rs 12k cr
New Delhi, Nov 24: The total cost of state-

The project has been stalled since December 2011, after the local people raised issues related to its safety and downstream impact.
"Assam also wanted to increase its total share of power from the project," the official said, adding that the state was earlier granted 208 MW of electricity from the hydel station which has now increased to 300 MW. Besides, the state is expected to get 25 MW or more free power from the plant which is likely to resume construction work next month.
The project, earlier expected to be fully commissioned by December 2012, is now likely to be operational by December 2017.
"We are hopeful that the construction work on the project would start again from December next month," the official said.
According to sources, the Power Ministry had a meeting with the state government earlier this month and achieved some breakthrough on the issues.
Once commissioned, Subansiri (250x8) will be India's biggest hydroelectric project.
The estimated annual energy generation from the project is 7,421 million units.
NHPC generates 5,702 MW electricity from 17 hydel stations in the country. As many as seven power stations with total capacity of 4,095 MW are under construction. PTI

Remove inequalities from society
Dear Editor,
Through the column of your esteemed daily I would like to say that economic development needs to be social justice. Social justice means that economic and political power should be equitably distributed in the state and there should be no concentration of economic power in the hands of a few people and political leaders of the state. With social justice people will have more incentive for economic growth in the state and country as a whole. Our state is still facing economic crisis and it’s all because of political hands. The central government has been pumping in crores of fund or scheme every year to improve state’s economic development but state government misuses the fund and scheme. The absence of social justice presents a serious problem in the path of economic growth.
Development must therefore be conceived of as a multidimensional process involving major changes in social structures, population attitudes, and state institutions, as well as the acceleration of economic growth, the reduction of inequality and the eradication of poverty.
So I would like to say that government should help to obtain social justice through reduction in inequalities of income by progressive taxation of incomes, decentralization of economic power, more expenditure on the weaker sections of the society, workers participation in management, etc. This will bring institutional changes in the economy and promote economic growth of the state.

It is in this context that allegation leveled against him by his fellow colleague is very serious in nature. One do not expect person like him who is role model for many budding journalists to indulge in such shameful act. The incident happens at a time when whole country is still yet to overcome the trauma of Nirbhaya gang rape incident. Though Tejpal has apologized to the victim journalist and also ‘recusing’ himself from the post of editor in chief of Tehelka for six month, one wonder is that really enough? He ought to be treated like any another criminal and Goa police, where incident took place, should immediately start criminal proceeding against him. Press Council of India should also step in and ensure that he does not return to editorial board till proper investigation is done.
